Postnatal Support

What Happens when Baby Comes Home?

Baby is home, everyone is happy… now what?

Sounds a bit daunting to try to decide and plan for all adjustments at this time, right? Too many times we plan a baby shower and plan for birth, but don’t plan for all the changes that come once baby is home.

After birth parents and family actually need more assistance than baby. Baby’s needs and wants are minimal in those first few weeks; so this is time to:

  • Adjust – to new resposibilities and all the changes
  • Rest – this is key to healing and performing your best
  • Take care of the birthing parent and ensure they feel their best

Having a plan and everyone knowing their new roles is a great way to be supportive and help the healing process.

With a Postnatal Plan;

  • Everyone in the family is prepared for their roles.
  • Parent(s) can rest knowing what their expectations are.
  • Mom (birthing parent) can rest because, the assistance she needs has already been designated.
  • Dad (partner/family) can feel needed as they   already understand how they can be involved.

Even older children can benefit from this plan as they will have an understanding of their new roles and some of the family dynamic changes.

As your doula, I’m there to help facilitate the changes and help with communication within the family. I’ll be there:

  • to remind mom that her job is to rest and heal
  • to reassure the partner (family) that they’re doing their best
  • provide older children with some attention and time
  • to assist in household cleaning and chores
  • to provide parents with a break

And so much more!!

As with everything at M-brace, I will cater your Postnatal Birth Plan specifically to you and your family's unique journey.
